{"id":476364,"date":"2026-02-15T11:08:43","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T11:08:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/476364\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T11:08:43","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T11:08:43","slug":"city-holding-public-hearing-on-beverage-recycling-drop-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/476364\/","title":{"rendered":"City holding public hearing on beverage recycling drop-off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Yellowknife is inviting residents to share their thoughts on a proposed drop-and-go beverage recycling station.<\/p>\n<p>The NWT government <a href=\"https:\/\/cabinradio.ca\/274754\/news\/politics\/beverage-recycling-drop-off-planned-for-yellowknifes-51-street\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is hoping to open the station<\/a> at the end of 51 Street, beside <a href=\"https:\/\/cabinradio.ca\/269635\/news\/yellowknife\/housing-nwt-completes-modernizing-of-yellowknifes-aspen-apartments\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Aspen Apartments public housing complex<\/a>, as part of plans to expand and improve its beverage container recycling program.<\/p>\n<p>As the proposal requires an amendment to the city\u2019s zoning bylaw, it has to go through a public hearing and be approved by councillors before the city may grant it a development permit.<\/p>\n<p>The city <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OurYellowknife\/posts\/pfbid0rzonjJSJqD3MS6J6GRiFtCgGzy4WyJSosRzj7gCep9rCkCuzncEi5ffNpmushBKLl\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plans to hold a public hearing<\/a> at City Hall on Wednesday, February 25 at noon.<\/p>\n<p>The city is holding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OurYellowknife\/posts\/pfbid0cNnqFavL3VDUBkGAZugC193BoYdgPZQAFjzgCBmQmhpNdQS12c6LFUkxvJ6YPBHel\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a separate public hearing<\/a> on the same day regarding a proposal to amend Yellowknife\u2019s community plan to redesignate approximately 8.8 hectares of vacant land from \u201cEngle Industrial Business District\u201d to \u201cKam Lake\u201d to allow for development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement.<br \/><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MTk1OSwxNSw2MA==\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nwtrpa.org\/get-active\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Get-Active-Banner-Cabin-Radio-v3.jpg\" width=\"300px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement.<br \/><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MTk3MSwxNSw2MA==\" href=\"https:\/\/www.auroracollege.nt.ca\/2026\/01\/seeking-board-of-governors-member-for-aurora-college\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Feb-12-2026-BOG-2026-Digital-Ad.png\" width=\"300px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The municipality is asking people interested in presenting at either hearing to get in touch with the city clerk before noon on February 25.
