\nThe City of Orillia is inviting feedback from residents and visitors by kicking off an update to its five-year Waste Minimization Plan. Consultation runs from Feb. 13 to March 14, 2026, and includes an online survey and two separate public open house sessions. Community input will help shape strategies for waste reduction, recycling and education programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cReducing waste and using our resources more wisely is essential to building a sustainable and climate-resilient community,\u201d said Don McIsaac, Mayor of Orillia. \u201cThis plan will help guide our actions over the next five years, and we welcome local voices as we create solutions that work for Orillia now and into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
How residents can participate<\/p>\n
Survey \u2013 share ideas and priorities through an online survey Orillia.ca\/WasteSurvey<\/a>. The survey will also be available at the Open House events.<\/p>\n Project webpage \u2013 learn more about the Waste Minimization Plan, project timelines and engagement opportunities at Orillia.ca\/WMP<\/a>.<\/p>\n In-person Open Houses \u2013 attend one of two convenient drop-in style sessions to see display boards and speak directly with City staff, Orillia Waste Management Advisory Committee members, and the City\u2019s consultant.<\/p>\n
Following the consultation period and review of public feedback, the updated Waste Minimization Plan is expected to be provided to Council later this spring, then submitted to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).<\/p>\n
