{"id":477989,"date":"2026-02-16T06:23:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T06:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/477989\/"},"modified":"2026-02-16T06:23:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T06:23:09","slug":"kpmg-partner-fined-over-using-ai-to-pass-ai-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/477989\/","title":{"rendered":"KPMG partner fined over using AI to pass AI test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stay informed with free updates<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Simply sign up to the Artificial intelligence myFT Digest &#8212; delivered directly to your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>A partner at KPMG Australia has been fined A$10,000 ($7,000) after using AI tools to cheat on an internal training course about using AI.<\/p>\n<p>The unnamed partner was forced to redo the test after uploading training materials into an AI platform to help answer questions on the use of the fast-evolving technology. <\/p>\n<p>More than two dozen staff have been caught over this financial year using AI tools for internal exams, according to KPMG.<\/p>\n<p>The incident is the latest example of a professional services company struggling with staff using AI to cheat on exams or when producing work for clients. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike most organisations, we have been grappling with the role and use of AI as it relates to internal training and testing,\u201d said Andrew Yates, chief executive of KPMG Australia. \u201cIt\u2019s a very hard thing to get on top of given how quickly society has embraced it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cGiven the everyday use of these tools, some people breach our policy. We take it seriously when they do. We are also looking at ways to strengthen our approach in the current self-reporting regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The world\u2019s largest accounting body, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, scrapped remote tests late last year, saying its safeguards could not keep up with the \u201csophistication\u201d of cheating systems. All of the Big Four accounting firms have been hit with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/afb9ac8c-5d7b-44bb-9058-8fe3e37042bf\" title=\"\" data-trackable=\"link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fines<\/a> over cheating scandals across multiple countries in recent years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"n-content-recommended__title o3-type-body-highlight\">Recommended<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/52e70f3e-d0e8-462c-8ac1-f08a684dfca2\" data-trackable=\"image-link\" data-trackable-context-story-link=\"image-link\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"o-teaser__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/https:\/\/images.ft.com\/v3\/image\/raw\/https%3A%2F%2Fd1e00ek4ebabms.cloudfront.net%2Fproduction%2F14b973.jpeg\" alt=\"Thousands of people sit at individual desks in rows taking exams in a large hall, with exam invigilators standing next to them\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>KPMG has adopted measures to identify the use of AI by its staff and will record how many of its workers have misused the technology when it publishes annual results, it said.
