DeKALB, Ill. \u2013 The Northern Illinois University men’s tennis team defeated Omaha and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday to complete a 3-0 weekend. NIU has won six of its seven matches to begin the dual season.<\/p>\n

Sunday began with the Huskies holding on for a 4-2 win over Omaha. NIU earned the doubles point with Iker Gaztambide Arrastia<\/a> \/ Nikola Puntaric<\/a> winning 6-3 at No. 1, followed by a Iker Dellien Velasco<\/a> \/ Chiao Bo Suo Nan<\/a> win at No. 2.<\/p>\n

Gaztambide Arrastia and Puntaric rolled their doubles success into singles play, with Gaztambide Arrastia winning 6-2, 7-6 and Puntaric securing a 6-2, 6-3 victory.<\/p>\n

The Mavericks put the pressure on NIU by winning the next two matches. This allowed for Federico Scotuzzi<\/a> to seal the match with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win in dramatic fashion.<\/p>\n

Shifting into the match against Wisconsin-Whitewater, a 6-3 win from Gaztambide Arrastia \/ Puntaric gave the Huskies the early lead.<\/p>\n

A trio of wins from the senior class finalized the win in the Huskies favor. Dellien recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 followed by Gaztambide Arrastia continuing his singles winning streak. Scotuzzi sealed the win with a 6-4, 6-0 victory from No. 2.<\/p>\n

The Huskies final two wins of the match came from a pair of sophomores in Pratyaksh LNU and Suo Nan, each who recorded their second wins on the weekend.<\/p>\n

Up next, NIU will hit the road, beginning with traveling to Wisconsin on Friday, Feb. 21 and then Marquette on Sunday, Feb. 22.
