{"id":479166,"date":"2026-02-16T20:42:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T20:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/479166\/"},"modified":"2026-02-16T20:42:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T20:42:08","slug":"pentagon-threatens-to-cut-anthropic-in-ai-safeguards-dispute-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/479166\/","title":{"rendered":"Pentagon threatens to cut Anthropic in AI safeguards dispute: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dario Amodei, co-founder and chief executive officer of Anthropic, during a Bloomberg Television interview in San Francisco, California, US, on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025. <\/p>\n<p>David Paul Morris | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon is considering ending its relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligenc<\/a>e company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/10\/anthropic-cnbc-disruptor-50.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthropic<\/a>\u00a0over its insistence on keeping some restrictions on how the U.S. military uses its models, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/02\/15\/claude-pentagon-anthropic-contract-maduro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Axios reported<\/a> on Saturday, citing an administration official.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon is pushing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/14\/anthropic-google-openai-xai-granted-up-to-200-million-from-dod.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">four AI companies<\/a> to let the military use their tools for &#8220;all lawful purposes,&#8221; including in areas of weapons development, intelligence collection and battlefield operations, but\u00a0Anthropic\u00a0has not agreed to those terms and the Pentagon is getting fed up after months of negotiations, according to the Axios report.<\/p>\n<p>The other companies included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/10\/openai-cnbc-disruptor-50.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOGL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/10\/musks-xai-loses-second-co-founder-in-two-days-as-jimmy-ba-departs.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">xAI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0Anthropic\u00a0spokesperson said the company had not discussed the use of its AI model <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/05\/anthropic-claude-opus-4-6-vibe-working.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Claude<\/a> for specific operations with the Pentagon.
