CORTINA D\u2019AMPEZZO \u2013 Umpire concerns remained at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium on Monday. The Canadian women\u2019s team\u2019s losing streak did not.<\/p>\n

Rachel Homan guided her foursome to a 10-5 victory over China\u2019s Rui Wang in the first women\u2019s session since World Curling backtracked on umpiring setup changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a good flow, good vibes and all-around execution,\u201d said Canadian coach Heather Nedohin. \u201cSo good morning, Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n

Homan and her Ottawa-based women\u2019s team of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes scored four points in the fourth end and tacked on three more in the sixth.<\/p>\n

The victory ended a three-game losing skid and moved Canada into a three-way tie at 2-3. Homan was scheduled to play Japan\u2019s Sayaka Yoshimura (1-4) in the evening.<\/p>\n

Homan had a rock pulled in a loss to Switzerland on Saturday when an umpire monitoring the hog line called her for double-touching the stone. It was the first day with an increased umpire presence in the delivery area to watch for potential violations.<\/p>\n

The sport\u2019s governing body said Sunday night that umpires would return to their regular setup of monitoring the delivery area when requested by the opposing team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean there\u2019s always something blowing up at the Olympics, right?\u201d Miskew said. \u201cSo this year it\u2019s this. It\u2019s all good, we\u2019ll get through it and I think that it\u2019ll die down eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a request by China, an umpire was called out to watch the hog line on Homan\u2019s throws.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have every right to do that,\u201d Homan said. \u201cSo yeah, we asked for the umps to watch their team. And they didn\u2019t, but that\u2019s fine. It\u2019s not a part of our game. You go over the hog line, we don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in our game, we\u2019re focused on our game.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an email, World Curling\u2019s communications chief Chris Hamilton said Canada didn\u2019t actually ask the umpire to watch China\u2019s stones.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey asked how long umpires would be watching Rachel\u2019s stones following the request by China, and were told what ends she would be observed,\u201d Chris Hamilton said in an email. \u201cThey then asked why (the umpires) weren\u2019t also watching China\u2019s stones.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as was explained in the meeting with team representatives and shared in our statement (Sunday), teams need to ask for an athlete\u2019s deliveries to be monitored by an umpire and only that athlete is observed.\u201d<\/p>\n

China fell into a three-way tie with Canada for sixth place.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect that from that team,\u201d Homan said. \u201cWe wouldn\u2019t expect it from certain teams, but it\u2019s going to happen. It\u2019s at the Olympics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s Anna Hasselborg (6-0) remained unbeaten with a 6-4 win over Switzerland\u2019s Silvana Tirinzoni. Great Britain\u2019s Sophie Jackson (2-3) topped Denmark\u2019s Madeleine Dupont 7-2.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to play fierce, play with pride and give it all we have,\u201d Homan said. \u201cThat\u2019s all we can do. That\u2019s what\u2019s in our control. And it\u2019s to every other team\u2019s right to call officials if that\u2019s how they feel like they need to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

The top four teams at the end of round-robin play Thursday afternoon will advance to the semifinals on Friday. Medal games are scheduled for the weekend.<\/p>\n

American Tabitha Peterson was alone in second place at 4-1. Switzerland and South Korea\u2019s Eunji Gim were next at 3-2 while Denmark fell to 3-3.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we\u2019re playing the way we\u2019re playing, it\u2019s like we\u2019ve got blinders on,\u201d Nedohin said. \u201cAnd we\u2019re at the point right now, whether it\u2019s the cameramen, whether it\u2019s the crazy crowd, whether it\u2019s the officials, we\u2019re executing in front of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
