\u201cI was recently went home for two weeks and I did not really tell anyone. I just went to see my family. I wanted to see how hard it would be for me to get in and out of the country. I wanted to feel what it felt like.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, much of O\u2019Donnell\u2019s family still lives in the U.S.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hadn\u2019t been home in over a year,\u201d the mother of five told Cuomo. \u201cI also wanted to make sure that it was safe for me before I brought my daughter this summer, where we plan to spend the summertime off from her schooling here with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Returning felt \u2018very different\u2019<\/p>\n
O\u2019 Donnell said the last two weeks they spent in New York felt \u201clike a very different country.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c(It\u2019s) a very different place for me because, for a year, I haven\u2019t been watching the news. I haven\u2019t been watching American culture television. I\u2019ve been in a place where celebrity worship does not exist. I don\u2019t regret leaving at all. I think I did what I needed to do to save myself, my child and my sanity.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cThe energy that I felt while in the United States \u2026 it was scary. There\u2019s a feeling that something is really wrong and no one is doing anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
