CORPUS CHRISTI\u00a0\u2013 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team holds the lead after the first day of the Islanders Collegiate Invitational on Monday at Corpus Christi Country Club.\u00a0
\n\u00a0

\nThe Vaqueros opened with a first round 295 before turning in a second round 294. UTRGV holds a seven-shot lead over Houston Christian with a two-round total of 589 and lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by nine shots.\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nSophomore\u00a0Pitchayapa Pungpho<\/a>\u00a0led the way for the Vaqueros on Monday as she sits in third place with a two-round total of 145. Pungpho carded round of 72 and 73 and is just two shots off the lead that is held by East Texas A&M’s Linnea Olsson and McLennan Community College’s\u00a0Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin\u00a0after they posted a two-round total of 143.

\nSophomore\u00a0Zoe Hobbs<\/a>\u00a0and junior\u00a0Natalia Rodriguez<\/a>\u00a0are tied for ninth place after they each posted a two-round total of 149. Hobbs turned in rounds of 75 and 74 while Rodriguez posted rounds of 72 and 77.\u00a0

\nSophomore\u00a0Miriam Barcalova<\/a>\u00a0is tied for 11th\u00a0with a two-round total of 150 after posting rounds of 76 and 74. Sophomore\u00a0Kieli Saenz<\/a>\u00a0is tied for 14th\u00a0with a two-round total of 151 after opening with a first round 78 and improving with a second round 73.\u00a0

\nJunior\u00a0Camila Herrera<\/a>, who is playing as an individual, is also tied for 14th\u00a0with a two-round total of 151 after carding rounds of 77 and 74. Senior\u00a0Cristina Galban<\/a>, who is also playing as an individual, is tied for 18th\u00a0with a two-round total of 154 with back-to-back rounds of 77.\u00a0

\nThe Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday with the final round starting at 8:30 a.m.
