Toronto’s Roncesvalles Village will soon bid a bittersweet\u00a0farewell to Frock<\/a>, a longstanding clothing boutique that has announced it will close later this year.<\/p>\n

Since 2003, the shop has offered a wide range of clothing and intimates, along with home decor, shoes and accessories to customers in Roncy, serving as one of the few dedicated fashion destinations in the area.<\/p>\n

Owner of Frock, Jim Pauk, recently shared the news on the store’s official Instagram account. The announcement was accompanied by a heartfelt reflection on the shop’s history, one many are calling a “beautiful tribute”\u00a0to his late wife, Cathryn Dajka, the boutique’s original owner and a well-known fashion influencer.<\/p>\n

In the statement, Pauk cites “ongoing financial challenges” as the reason behind the difficult decision.\u00a0He then recounts how Frock first opened its doors in 2003\u00a0and how Dajka helped breathe new life into the street by creating a welcoming, creative space for customers.<\/p>\n

“In 2019, life hit hard. Cathryn and I both lost our parents,” read the statement. Dajka later decided to sell Frock and spend time travelling the world.<\/p>\n

Those hopes, however, were short-lived.<\/p>\n

“A few short months after our losses, Cathryn was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Cathryn’s determination to sell Frock intensified, but as her health declined, direct involvement in the business was, understandably, reduced,”\u00a0Pauk wrote.<\/p>\n

After Dajka’s passing in 2022,\u00a0the store faced mounting challenges. Its financial situation worsened, and an employee’s misuse of company funds further strained the business, ultimately contributing to its closure this year.<\/p>\n

Pauk recalled how employees and community members rallied behind Frock, helping keep it afloat for as long as possible. “However, as with many small businesses, it has been challenging to remain financially sustainable after COVID,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

Since the statement was posted, an outpouring of support has filled the comments section.<\/p>\n

“Frock has been such an inspiration to us other business owners and has been a staple in the Roncesvalles community,”\u00a0one user commented. “So sad to be losing such an iconic cornerstone,”\u00a0another wrote.<\/p>\n

And hundreds of similar sentiments have followed.<\/p>\n

While an exact closing date has not been announced, the shop confirmed\u00a0that the Spring 2026 season will be its last. Its closing sale has also begun, and shoppers can take advantage of the discounted prices both online<\/a> and in-store.<\/p>\n
