{"id":480274,"date":"2026-02-17T08:23:23","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T08:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/480274\/"},"modified":"2026-02-17T08:23:23","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T08:23:23","slug":"one-arrested-after-fatal-house-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/480274\/","title":{"rendered":"One arrested after fatal house fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One person has been charged with manslaughter and two arson charges following a fatal house fire on Young Street last week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Winnipeg police have arrested a person after a house fire claimed a man\u2019s life on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Emergency crews were called to a house fire around 6 p.m. on Feb. 12, in the 200 block of Young Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said multiple people were evacuated from the home, and two people were taken to hospital \u2014 one in stable condition, the other in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A firefighter was also taken to hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The person in critical condition died from their injuries and has been identified as 68-year-old Gregory George Thomas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The homicide unit took over the investigation, and determined the fire was started on purpose, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A 40-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter and two counts of arson disregarding human life.
