{"id":480936,"date":"2026-02-17T15:29:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T15:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/480936\/"},"modified":"2026-02-17T15:29:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T15:29:08","slug":"winter-makes-comeback-as-storm-warning-hits-calgary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/480936\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter makes comeback as storm warning hits Calgary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calgary.citynews.ca\/2026\/02\/15\/calgary-winter-back-possible-30-cm-snow-eccc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Winter is back in Calgary<\/a> after a mild couple of weeks \u2014 with more snow on the way \u2014 as a storm warning hits the city on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada says hazardous conditions are expected, with snow intensifying early Tuesday with 15-25 centimetres of snow \u2014 local amounts reaching 30 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Meteorologists say the snow will taper off late Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, winds gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour are accompanying the snowfall, which meteorologists say will cause poor visibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow,\u201d the warning reads.<\/p>\n<p>Road crews with the City of Calgary prepared equipment and materials on Monday ahead of launching its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/roads\/conditions\/snow-ice.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">snow priority plan<\/a>. This includes applying anti-icing to intersections, bridges, and hills.<\/p>\n<p>The city says crews will then plow through lanes and apply materials as needed before the snow starts falling, then it activates the priority plan, starting with major roadways within 0-18 hours after snowfall. Sidewalks, LRT platforms, and other priority pathways are cleared within 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to Calgary Transit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgarytransit.com\/rider-information\/traveling-in-winter\/snow-detours.html?redirect=\/snowdetours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">snow detours<\/a> are in effect for all bus routes Tuesday morning, which is intended to \u201creduce risks of stuck buses and slowdowns for customers and commuters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Calgary Transit school bus routes are remaining in place.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Environment Canada\u2019s forecasts say temperatures will drop considerably, reaching -17 C in the afternoon while the windchill dips to -30 C.
