The offensive line in front of Justin Herbert.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">Luckily for the Chargers, free agency appears to offer some sneaky-good solutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6p\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chargers\/onsi\/chargers-franchise-tag-primer-odafe-oweh-key-dates-contract-details\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Chargers Franchise Tag Primer: Odafe Oweh, Key Dates and Contract Details to Know<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chargers perfect fit for Bills free agent?<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6v\">There are some big-name interior offensive linemen headed to free agency this year. Think Isaac Seumalo. Heck, even Zion Johnson, the first-round pick by the Chargers a few years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6y\">ESPN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47940120\/2026-nfl-free-agency-best-team-fits-ranking-top-50-players-available-offseason\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Bowen<\/a>, though, suggested the Chargers are the best fit in the NFL for Buffalo Bills free agent David Edwards:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"71\">\u201cIf Zion Johnson leaves L.A., then Edwards could replace him. Edwards has played his best football as a pro over his past two seasons. He has excellent movement traits at 6-foot-6 and 308 pounds, and his 95% pass block win rate in 2025 ranked 12th among 65 qualifying guards. That&#8217;s a positive for a Chargers team that allowed 60 sacks, tied for the second most in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"74\">That 95 percent metric is staggering for a Chargers team that just hasn\u2019t been able to do right by Justin Herbert. Rebilas-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Why should Chargers upgrade guard spot?<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7o\">While Edwards ranked 19th, Johnson was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/nfl\/players\/zion-johnson\/99681\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"> 53rd<\/a> on the same list of 81. Mekhi Becton was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/nfl\/players\/mekhi-becton\/59818\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">79th<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7r\">Those grades are merely one way to judge things, of course. But that was Johnston\u2019s mini-breakout as a pro. It\u2019s hard to say if they buy into him continuing to ramp up.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7u\">Becton was the Chargers\u2019 big free-agency splash that massively backfired. They constructed his deal with an out for this offseason given the risk involved. It doesn\u2019t help that he\u2019s consistently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chargers\/onsi\/chargers-mekhi-becton-stirs-up-drama-controversial-comments\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">stirred up drama about his usage and fit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7x\">Health provided, the Chargers are just fine at tackle with Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt.
