Could Yankees GM Brian Cashman look to bring back Luis Severino to the Bronx?<\/p>\n
Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees<\/a> frustrated quite a few fans during the MLB offseason for not being very aggressive.<\/p>\n After coming up short in the ALDS last season against the AL East rival Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and finishing second place in the division behind the same team, it was clear that the Yankees had some work to do. However, they didn\u2019t do much during the offseason.<\/p>\n The team\u2019s biggest move was re-signing star outfielder Cody Bellinger. While that was at the top of their priority list, the front office didn\u2019t make any other aggressive outside moves.<\/p>\n Heading into the 2026 MLB season, no one knows what to expect from New York. It\u2019s possible the Yankees could be a contender, or they could simply make the playoffs with a quick exit being the result.<\/p>\n Only time will tell, but New York has now been hit with another harsh criticism after its lackluster offseason.<\/p>\n Colin Cowherd Doesn\u2019t Hold Back About the New York Yankees<\/p>\n During an episode of \u201cThe Herd With Colin Cowherd,\u201d Cowherd didn\u2019t hold back his words about the Yankees\u2019 offseason.<\/p>\n \u201cIt used to be the Yankees were the most aggressive team in baseball,\u201d Cowherd said. \u201cNow they\u2019re not the most aggressive team in their own division, that\u2019s Toronto. Or even in their city, that\u2019s the Mets<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n That quote sums up how many fans felt about the team\u2019s offseason effort. At the end of the day, they simply haven\u2019t been that aggressive.<\/p>\n New York used to be a big spender each and every offseason. Cashman and company threw cash around at will. That has changed in recent years.<\/p>\n What Should Be Expected from the Yankees in 2026?<\/p>\n Jim Bowden of The Athletic<\/a> has shared his belief that fans should expect more of the same this season as they got last year.<\/p>\n He has the Yankees finishing in second place in the American League East division race behind the Blue Jays. Bowden also didn\u2019t like what New York did this offseason, giving the team a \u201cC\u201d grade for their efforts.<\/p>\n A second-place finish would at least put the Yankees in position to potentially get into the postseason for a playoff run. Getting into the playoffs is the first goal. Whether or not New York has a chance to win a World Series remains to be seen.<\/p>\n Following such a quiet offseason, the Yankees are going to have a lot to prove when the regular season gets underway.
