{"id":481416,"date":"2026-02-17T20:27:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T20:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/481416\/"},"modified":"2026-02-17T20:27:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T20:27:16","slug":"rules-for-using-fireworks-on-lunar-new-year-other-dates-have-changed-in-mississauga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/481416\/","title":{"rendered":"Rules for using fireworks on Lunar New Year, other dates have changed in Mississauga\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those planning to celebrate Lunar New Year in Mississauga by setting off backyard fireworks on Tuesday night are reminded they may do so only between 6 and 10 p.m., the city says.<\/p>\n<p>City of Mississauga officials say Lunar New Year, which falls today (Feb. 17), is one of five holidays throughout the year when residents don\u2019t need to acquire permits from the city to use fireworks on their private property.<\/p>\n<p>The other occasions when fireworks are allowed are New Year\u2019s Eve, Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali.<\/p>\n<p>There are, however, a number of key changes to the rules this year for people who celebrate with fireworks on Lunar New Year and any of the other holidays\/dates when such celebrations can take place on private property without permits.<\/p>\n<p>Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/no-fireworks-sales-allowed-on-holidays-under-new-rules-in-mississauga\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mississauga\u2019s amended fireworks bylaw<\/a> approved by city council in late 2025, residents can only set off fireworks at their homes between 6 and 10 p.m. on the aforementioned holidays\/dates.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the public sale of fireworks in Mississauga can take place only within a period of 10 days before the holiday, but not on the day of the celebration.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidyard-player-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1771360035_980_awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu.jpg\" data-videoid=\"790139\" data-uuid=\"awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu\" data-v=\"4\" data-type=\"inline\" data-muted=\"1\" style=\"width:100%\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p>        <img width=\"1024\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-1.55.02-PM-1024x513.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p>The city also reminds residents they cannot use consumer fireworks in parks, parking lots, on streets and sidewalks or property they don\u2019t own.<\/p>\n<p>To submit a complaint about illegal use of fireworks, visit mississauga.ca\/fireworks or call 311.
