Yet another trucking company has been shut down and hit with a fine after being caught operating illegally north of Brampton.<\/p>\n

For more than a year, the Town of Caledon has been cracking down on trucking operators who break zoning and land-use bylaws, with complaints from some residents going back almost a decade.<\/p>\n

On Feb. 11, the town said it won another prosecution, this time against an illegal truck depot along The Gore Road in Caledon.<\/p>\n

The company has been fined $60,000 and hit with a prohibition order, preventing the parking or storage of commercial motor vehicles over 4,500 kilograms on the property in the future, the town says.<\/p>\n

Since the Illegal Land Use Task Force was launched in November 2024, Caledon has actively investigated more than 100 files related to suspected illegal land use activities, and secure\u00a032 prosecutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeing real progress, but this important work must continue,\u201d Mayor Annette Groves said in a release. \u201cOur community deserves safe roads and responsible land use. I want to thank our provincial and federal colleagues who continue to stand with us as we push for stronger tools and meaningful change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nearly a dozen investigations are ongoing, with eight orders and notices issued, the town says.<\/p>\n

In 2021, the town and Peel Region looked to update zoning lands to support the logistics industry as residents in both Caledon and Brampton complained about a constant stream of trucks and noise pollution coming from trucking yards nearby.<\/p>\n

The complaints led to hundreds of inspections revealing some 180 properties with at least one tractor-trailer or commercial vehicle parked or stored. Since then several outfits have been fined or shuttered, including one hit with a $1 million fine by the courts.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, there have been at least $1.5 million in fines handed down to over 300 illegal trucking operators in Caledon.<\/p>\n
