Khamzat Chimaev\u2019s coach is taking critics of the UFC Middleweight Champion to task.<\/p>\n
Chimaev has been undefeated in his pro MMA career thus far. He turned in a grappling clinic<\/a> with nearly 22 minutes of control time against Dricus du Plessis. Many anticipated that du Plessis would be able to create scrambles at least early on, but he didn\u2019t have an answer.<\/p>\n Alan Finfou, Chimaev\u2019s jiu-jitsu coach, reflected on criticisms that his fighter received after wins over du Plessis and Kamaru Usman. He told MMA Today<\/a> that the critics aren\u2019t being realistic (h\/t MMAJunkie<\/a>).<\/p>\n \u201cWith the fight with Kamaru Usman, we were preparing for one kind of fighter \u2013 it was Paulo Costa,\u201d Finfou told MMA Today. \u201cWe were doing an entire camp for one type of fighter. A couple of days before the fight, they switch the opposite. We didn\u2019t prepare for this, the same way Kamaru wasn\u2019t training for (Chimaev) \u2013 he wasn\u2019t in a camp for a fight. And then people start to say, \u2018If it would be five rounds.\u2019 Bro, this is delusional. We all know this is three rounds \u2013 preparation for three rounds.<\/p>\n \u201cOK, we won that way, five rounds, pure dominance (vs. Du Plessis), so now nobody talks about fighting five rounds anymore, but people say that the fight was boring. If Khamzat asked, \u2018Can I strike?\u2019 and then we say \u2018Yes, go,\u2019 we\u2019d just become sloppy, unprofessional and cocky at the wrong moment because the fight wasn\u2019t finished. If he got knocked out, you know what everybody would say? \u2018What an idiot! Why did he change? He was dominating the guy! The coaches let him do this.’\u201d<\/p>\n
