{"id":482305,"date":"2026-02-18T05:21:18","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T05:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/482305\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T05:21:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T05:21:18","slug":"bank-of-canada-orders-tip-manager-xtm-to-halt-payments-as-b-c-restaurants-money-missing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/482305\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank of Canada orders tip manager XTM to halt payments as B.C. restaurants\u2019 money missing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/bank-of-canada\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bank of Canada<\/a> announced on Tuesday that it has issued a temporary order to XTM Inc. to immediately cease performing any retail payment activities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This comes <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11665291\/more-bc-restaurants-money-3rd-party-program-gone-still-no-answers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">after more people in the hospitality industry<\/a> across B.C. are coming forward about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/tips\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tips<\/a> disappearing from the third-party program that manages them.<\/p>\n<p>XTM provides a payment service for restaurant owners to gather and distribute tips to staff using pre-paid cards through a platform called Everyday, previously called AnyDay.<\/p>\n<p>In early February, members of B.C.\u2019s hospitality industry started reporting that the company stopped distributing money and some were missing thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Griffith, owner of Alta Bistro and Alpha Cafe in Whistler, told Global News they were missing $4,500.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\" alt=\"For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Upton, one of the owners of The Broken Seal restaurant in Squamish, told Global News they are missing $12,000.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Dan Webster with Container Brewing in East Vancouver said they are missing $3,100.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of Canada said in a statement that the order applies to XTM and its affiliated entities and \u201cprohibits XTM or its affiliates from conducting any transactions or withdrawals from accounts associated with the AnyDay platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bank issued this order under section 94 (4) of the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA).
