A new show celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year in Mississauga this month.<\/p>\n

The 2026 Mississauga Lunar New Year Spectacular is a vibrant cultural celebration that brings together traditional and contemporary performances at Meadowvale Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 21.<\/p>\n

The program blends traditional dance, festive music and cultural presentations inspired by Lunar New Year customs.<\/p>\n

The show, hosted by the Horizon and Legacy Foundation, has been held in Vaughan or Toronto in past years, director Alice Zhang told INsauga.com.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year is the first year it has been held in Mississauga,\u201d Zhang said.<\/p>\n

Zhang, an actress and TV producer in China, wanted to get involved because she often watched the performances at the Horizon and Legacy Foundation\u2019s Asian markets.<\/p>\n

There are over 25 performances with groups from around the Greater Toronto Area. Performers range in age from about six to 70 years old.<\/p>\n

The show opens with a traditional lion dance, but this performance may be different than what people have experienced in the past, as it includes audience engagement, Zhang said.<\/p>\n

As this is the year of the horse in the Chinese zodiac, Zhang said she wanted the show theme to symbolize energy, progress, confidence and vitality.<\/p>\n

In one 10-minute segment of the show, a group of 43 performers combine traditional dances with Kung-fu and Tai-chi elements, she said. Another performance called Horse Racing features traditional Chinese two-stringed instruments, often called a pipa.<\/p>\n

Zhang added AI-generated set backgrounds, adding a boost to the visual effects, while retaining the traditional performances.<\/p>\n

The show also includes an activity zone where attendees can experience zodiac readings and calligraphy in booths before entering the performance area.<\/p>\n

Zhang extended a warm invitation to all Mississauga residents. She hopes people will \u201cenjoy cultural performances and share the joy of Chinese Lunar New Year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show is at the Meadowvale Theatre, 6315 Montevideo Rd., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.<\/p>\n

Tickets start at $20.<\/p>\n
