Tickets are free, pre-register on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.showpass.com\/have-you-heard-judi-singh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">showpass.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by 5X Fest, the gathering will feature the soundtrack of Baljit Sangra\u2019s 2025 documentary film, Have You Heard Judi Singh?<\/p>\n<p>Guests are invited to \u201csettle into a warm lounge setting as selected tracks are spotlighted and woven into a curated fireside conversation exploring sound, identity, and cultural memory. Following the conversation, the album continues in full, creating space for casual listening, reflection, and connection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Surrey Central is home to The Black Arts Centre (<a href=\"https:\/\/theblackartscentre.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">theblackartscentre.ca<\/a>), founded in 2022 as part of the Solid State Community Industries Network. The artist-run centre BAC supports and celebrates Black art and artists across disciplines. A new February-long exhibit \u201cFrom Horn to Home,\u201d curated by DDB Media, features art by Manar Abrre, Khadija Issa, Tutu Elradi, Remas Elradi &amp; Saliema Maki, Rahma Muktar and Stephen Waithaka Ng\u2019ang\u2019a.<\/p>\n<p>Sangra\u2019s movie, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knowledge.ca\/program\/have-you-heard-judi-singh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">streams on knowledge.ca<\/a>, shines a light on Singh\u2019s life and musical journey on the Edmonton jazz scene from the 1950s to 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Last September, Have You Heard Judi Singh? debuted in Surrey during the <a href=\"https:\/\/surreynowleader.com\/2025\/09\/22\/legacy-celebration-at-5-day-south-asian-film-fest-in-surrey-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2025 International South Asian Film Festival (iSAFF)<\/a>. In Vancouver, Sangra runs Viva Mantra Films, which produced the 2024 hockey documentary Mareya Shot Keetha Goal and also 2019\u2019s Because We Are Girls, a compelling exploration of sexual abuse in small-town British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Other Black History Month events in Surrey include \u201cTuning the Future: Black Identity Through Sound,\u201d title of a free afternoon event Saturday, Feb. 21 at Surrey Art Gallery, where artists Justen LeRoy and Della Orrey lead \u201ca dynamic conversation examining sound as a vessel for memory, healing, and radical possibility,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/news-events\/events\/tuning-future-black-identity-through-sound\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to surrey.ca<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Surrey Libraries hosts Black History Month events in February including a Worlds Within movie for adults at the Newton branch Feb. 20, 3 p.m. start. The 40-minute film \u201cdelves into the extraordinary lives of Black pioneers who overcame immense challenges to shape their communities and leave a lasting legacy,\u201d says a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreylibraries.ca\/events\/black-history-movie-worlds-within?eventdate=2026-02-20%2015%3A00%3A00%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">surreylibraries.ca<\/a>. Registration required, call 604-598-7406. <\/p>\n<p>The celebration of Black History Month originates from the U.S. professor Carter G.
