Ronda Rousey will fight Gina Carano in Netflix’s first live streamed MMA event.(AP)<\/p>\n
Netflix said the bout will be held in a hexagonal cage at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and will be streamed live globally. <\/p>\n
Rousey vs. Carano is expected to be contested as a featherweight bout at 145 pounds.<\/p>\n
Rousey and Carano will be fighting for the first time in their careers. <\/p>\n
\u201cBeen waiting so long to announce this,\u201d Rousey said. \u201cMe and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women\u2019s combat sports history, and we\u2019re partnering with the fighter-first promoter, MVP, as well as the baddest streamer on the planet, Netflix. Rousey had a record-setting run from 2011 to 2016, shattering the glass ceiling for women\u2019s MMA. After she reigned as UFC bantamweight champion, she went on to push women\u2019s WWE to its first WrestleMania event in history. She has also gone on to become a New York Times bestselling author as well as an actress in franchises like \u201cThe Fast and the Furious\u201d and \u201cThe Expendables.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carano is another legend of the sport, having taken part in MMA from 2006 to 2009, before women could compete in the UFC. She then became one of the first combat sports stars to cross over into the entertainment industry, getting roles in movies like \u201cHaywire,\u201d \u201cFast and Furious 6,\u201d \u201cDeadpool,\u201d and the Disney+ show \u201cThe Mandalorian.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cRonda came to me and said there was only one person she would make a comeback for, and it\u2019s been her dream to make this fight happen between us,\u201d Carano said.<\/p>\n
