In some rather en-raging news today, it seems that the third chapter of the 28 Years Later trilogy is now in limbo, per a report from World of Reel<\/a>. <\/p>\n Said the outlet, \u201cThe last week, I\u2019ve heard from two separate sources that Sony is in no rush to make the trilogy capper happen, despite announcing it last December. In fact, I\u2019ve heard Netflix has shown some interest in acquiring the sequel, but Danny Boyle isn\u2019t having any of it. He wants a theatrical release for this final chapter, which is supposed to star Cillian Murphy.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, Sony announced<\/a>\u00a0that they were moving ahead with Chapter 3 before Bone Temple\u2018s theatrical release this past January. While Dread has not confirmed these rumors, it certainly wouldn\u2019t be a shock if Sony now has cold feet.<\/p>\n Despite positive reviews for the Nia DaCosta-directed second chapter, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the film performed terribly at the box office. On a reported budget of $63M, it only grossed $25M domestically, with a $57M worldwide tally. Not good.<\/p>\n There\u2019s been all sorts of speculation as to why this might have been\u2026audience disinterest, fans turned off by 28 Years Later, etc. Whatever the case, worries that the planned third film won\u2019t happen are warranted. <\/p>\n We\u2019ll have to wait and see if the trilogy begun by director Danny Boyle and scribe Alex Garland gets a chance to continue the story of Spike (Alfie Williams). We last left the young man trapped in a world of monsters, infected and human alike, on quite a cliffhanger. It would be devastating to leave it unfinished. <\/p>\n If you\u2019re one of those who missed Bone Temple in theaters, you can watch it now through VOD.
