\n\tNBC<\/a> has found another lead actor for one of its pilots.<\/p>\n

\n\tFormer 911 star Peter Krause<\/a> has boarded Protection, a drama about a law enforcement family targeted by a killer. He\u2019ll play Mike Thornhill, a former Secret Service agent who\u2019s now an assistant director of intelligence. <\/p>\n

\n\tNBC has been on a casting run in the past week, also signing David Boreanaz<\/a> (The Rockford Files), Damon Wayans Jr.<\/a> (Puzzled) and Emily Deschanel<\/a> (an untitled drama about a criminal profiler) to lead roles in pilots. There\u2019s also an odd trend developing with NBC\u2019s casting: All four drama leads, plus Jane Lynch<\/a> in a comedy pilot, were series regulars on Fox shows in the 2010s.<\/p>\n

\n\tProtection is one of eight pilots NBC has ordered so far as part of a planned effort to increase its output in the old-school development method (it produced just three pilots last year). The drama comes from creator Josh Safran (Quantico, Gossip Girl) and Universal Television. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe logline for Protection reads, \u201cWhen a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents become the target of a mysterious assassin. Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice \u2026 even if it means betraying their sworn code.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKrause\u2019s Mike Thornhill is described a career blue-collar government worker who doesn\u2019t want his job to end. He\u2019s been the life of the party forever, and that attitude has come at a cost.<\/p>\n

\n\tShould it go to series, Protection will be Krause\u2019s first TV role since he left 911<\/a> last season. The three-time Emmy nominee\u2019s past work also includes Six Feet Under, NBC\u2019s Parenthood, Dirty Sexy Money and Sports Night. Krause is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen.<\/p>\n
