{"id":485121,"date":"2026-02-19T10:59:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T10:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/485121\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T10:59:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T10:59:16","slug":"edmonton-will-see-its-first-6-p-m-sunset-of-the-year-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/485121\/","title":{"rendered":"Edmonton will see its first 6 p.m. sunset of the year soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Edmonton may have just received a big dump of snow, but looking at the bright side of things, we are quickly approaching a sunset time of 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>In just a matter of days, the sun will no longer dip below the horizon before 6 p.m. On the evening of Monday, Feb. 23, the sun will set at 6 o\u2019clock precisely.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s another milestone marker of the dark stretch the city endures during the winter months, and daylight has been slowly returning since the winter solstice, and this is the time when that extra light starts to feel extra noticeable.<\/p>\n<p>Each evening brings a little more light, and by the end of February, the sun won\u2019t set until around 6:10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2245001\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Shutterstock_2711836113.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2245001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Albert Vasser\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Edmonton will see sunsets after 6 p.m. right through Halloween, with the sun setting at 6:02 p.m. on Oct. 31. Thanks to daylight saving time ending on Sunday, Nov. 1, we\u2019ll be back to seeing sunsets after 6 p.m. for quite some time again.<\/p>\n<p>Mornings are improving too, with the sun rising earlier as the Earth continues its seasonal shift. Winter still has a firm grip on the city, but things are literally tilting in our favour!<\/p>\n<p>Before we know it, spring will be on its way, and freezing at the bus stop or chipping our cars out of the frozen ground will be a thing of the past.
