Brampton\u2019s Danilo Djuricic will be playing for his hometown team after being signed by the Honey Badgers for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

A Brampton native who got his start in professional basketball playing two seasons with Basket Brno in Czechia, Djuricic has been signed by the Brampton Honey Badgers for the 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season.<\/p>\n

\u201cComing home to play the sport I love is a dream come true,\u201d he said in a release.<\/p>\n

While Djuricic spent the last four years with the Scarborough Shooting Stars and won a championship with the organization in 2023, he said putting on a Brampton jersey \u201cand playing in front of my family and friends is going to be an amazing feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Djuricic scored in double figures on three occasions in the 2025 season, including a 17-point outburst versus the Ottawa BlackJacks. He\u2019s played 119 games as a professional since 2021, averaging 4.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 13.4 minutes, the Honey Badgers say.<\/p>\n

After a testicular cancer diagnosis at 24 years old, the Brampton native underwent surgery and sat out part of the Shooting Stars\u2019 2023 season. He returned in 2024 and founded The 40 Year Plan \u2013 an organization designed to help student-athletes and professionals build a foundation for lifelong achievement.<\/p>\n

Honey Badgers Assistant General Manager John Ross says Djuricic \u201cis going to be an impact player for us on the court and in the locker room.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to add a player of his calibre and character to the franchise,\u201d Ross said in a release. He is an inspiration who will be both a valuable contributor for the Honey Badgers and the Brampton community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Djuricic was also a member of Canada\u2019s Gold medal-winning 2017 U19 FIBA World Championship team.<\/p>\n

Honey Badgers General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Jermaine Anderson said Djuricic \u201cembodies what it means to sacrifice for a common goal\u201d on the court.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis unselfishness, experience, and leadership will be invaluable to our team and we\u2019re excited to welcome him to the Honey Badger family,\u201d Anderson says.<\/p>\n

The team has also announced Alex Cerda has signed on as the new head coach, bringing \u201c10 years of NBA experience\u201d to the Brampton club. Cerda spent two seasons as an assistant video coordinator with the Los Angeles Clippers.<\/p>\n

Honey Badgers CEO Al Whitley says 2026 will be \u201ca very important year for Honey Badgers basketball,\u201d and is \u201cconfident that Alex is the person for this job.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Brampton Honey Badgers were the bottom-ranked team in the 10-team league last year, but were league champs in 2022 when the team was still based in Hamilton. The team<\/p>\n
