{"id":486002,"date":"2026-02-19T19:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T19:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/486002\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T19:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T19:56:09","slug":"pruning-a-city-of-surrey-tree-can-hit-your-wallet-hard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/486002\/","title":{"rendered":"Pruning a City of Surrey tree can hit your wallet hard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>              Pruning a City of Surrey tree can hit your wallet hard<\/p>\n<p class=\"pubStamp\">Published 10:30 am Thursday, February 19, 2026<\/p>\n<p>The City of Surrey is issuing its <a href=\"https:\/\/surreynowleader.com\/2025\/02\/21\/illegal-tree-pruning-in-surrey-can-get-costly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">annual reminder<\/a> that pruning or cutting trees on city property can earn you a fine of up to $20,000 under Surrey\u2019s Tree Protection Bylaw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPruning cuts made at the wrong time or the wrong place can permanently damage and weaken a tree,\u201d Rob Landucci, Surrey\u2019s urban forestry manager, states in a press release. \u201cThis reduces its ability to provide shade, manage rainwater and provide clean air, which all help to increase property values and support our mental and physical wellbeing. Properly caring for our trees ensures that these benefits continue for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are more than 115,000 shade trees on Surrey public property and certified arborists are tasked with pruning them properly to help them thrive. According to the press release, some 20,500 trees \u2013 roughly 1,700 each month \u2013 are inspected and pruned.<\/p>\n<p>If you know of a tree on City of Surrey property that could use some TLC, you may call 604-501-5050 or do up a report online.
