More than a 100 guests have been evacuated from a hotel in northeast Calgary as crews due to a carbon monoxide call.<\/p>\n
Emergency crews were called to the Emerald Hotel & Suites near Sunridge Blvd and Barlow Trail NE just before 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Calgary Fire says crews were initially called to the hotel for a medical incident involving two people found in the basement. Once on scene, crews detected carbon monoxide readings exceeding 300 ppm, a level considered immediately hazardous, prompting a full building evacuation.<\/p>\n
Around 120 people were evacuated. Two people were taken to the nearby Peter Lougheed Hospital in stable condition, paramedics said.<\/p>\n
With temperatures outside well below freezing, many evacuees have been gathered in the hotel lobby while awaiting Calgary Transit buses to provide temporary shelter. <\/p>\n
A CityNews reporter at the scene described \u201calarms still blaring, people inside the hotel waiting in the reception area,\u201d as firefighters continued to sweep the building.<\/p>\n
Crews remain on scene searching for the source of the high CO levels.<\/p>\n
