(Photo: Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Updated February 19, 2026 12:04PM<\/p>\n<p>French sensation <a target=\"_self\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/paul-seixas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Paul Seixas<\/a> blasted to his first pro victory and into the leader\u2019s jersey in a spicy, tactical battle between the stars of tomorrow at the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/volta-ao-algarve\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Volta ao Algarve<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The teenage prodigy beat back pre-race favorites <a target=\"_self\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/juan-ayuso\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Juan Ayuso<\/a> and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/joao-almeida\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jo\u00e3o Almeida<\/a> on the Cat. 1 Alta da F\u00f3ia (8.8km at 6.2%) in a searing race of wills and wits in the first major showdown of some of <a target=\"_self\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/are-cyclings-mega-contracts-worth-it-crunch-time-for-ayuso-onley-and-other-big-money-deals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cycling\u2019s youngest and best-paid talent this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ayuso was keen to light up the first major climb in his new Lidl-Trek kit and put the team on the front. UAE\u2019s Almeida hovered on his wheel, but Seixas <a target=\"_self\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/paul-seixas-tour-de-france-french-obsession\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">delivered on the hype<\/a> to counter after Almeida attacked near the top.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJo\u00e3o attacked a lot, but I knew that I had to wait for my moment and just keep as much energy as I could.
