{"id":486486,"date":"2026-02-20T00:42:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T00:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/486486\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T00:42:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T00:42:08","slug":"orca-to-roll-out-tap-to-pay-letting-riders-use-cards-and-digital-wallets-regionwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/486486\/","title":{"rendered":"ORCA to roll out tap-to-pay, letting riders use cards and digital wallets regionwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEATTLE \u2014 ORCA will launch a new tap-to-pay feature beginning Monday, allowing riders to use contactless credit and debit cards and digital wallets to pay fares across the Puget Sound region.<\/p>\n<p>ALSO SEE | <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/wsf-to-tack-on-3-credit-card-fee-for-ferries-affecting-80-of-travelers-costs-fee-travel-commute-bainbridge-vashon-seattle-tourism-vacation-visit-orca-fare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WSF to tack on 3% credit card fee for ferries, affecting 80% of travelers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new payment option enables riders to tap contactless-enabled Visa, Mastercard, Discover Network, or American Express credit or debit cards, or use digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay, at ORCA card readers. <\/p>\n<p>Riders can pay by tapping cards displaying the contactless symbol or by using digital versions of those cards on smartphones or other smart devices.<\/p>\n<p>The launch comes as Seattle and the broader Puget Sound region prepare to host several large events in 2026, including the<a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/podcasts\/inside-the-arena\/seattles-world-cup-ceo-talks-volunteers-small-biz-impacts-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> FIFA World Cup<\/a>, with many international visitors expected.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the new feature aligns with global expectations for convenient payment options and simplifies travel across the region. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe addition of Tap to Pay is a major milestone for transit in King County,\u201d said King County Executive Girmay Zahilay. \u201cIt brings our system into the modern era and makes everyday trips more convenient for riders while opening the door for more people to choose transit.
