Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgermsa has accepted an invite to the 2026 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, per sources.<\/p>\n

He becomes the second U Sports QB ever invited to the NFL Combine, joining Acadia University star Larry Jusdanis who attended the showcase event in 1995.<\/p>\n

Each year NFL teams can invite select free agents to the NFL Combine and Elgersma has garnered an invitation. He\u2019s going along with Kyle Trask to help throw to the other positions during the combine process. Trask was selected in the second round, 64th overall during the 2021 NFL Draft. The combine runs from Monday, February 23 through Monday, March 2 at Lucas Oil Stadium.<\/p>\n

Longtime partners and agents, Craig Schaeffer and Fred Weinrauch continue to pursue an NFL contract for the Canuck QB.<\/p>\n

After being released by the Green Bay Packers following training camp in August, Elgersma has since worked out for the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. The 23-year-old remains focused on inking an NFL contract.<\/p>\n

Elgersma completed 16-of-23 passes for 166 yards with one touchdown<\/a> and no interceptions while playing over three NFL preseason games with the Packers, recording a 104.6 QB rating.<\/p>\n

The six-foot-five, 227-pound passer signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in May following a rookie mini-camp tryout, becoming the fourth Canadian university QB to sign with an NFL team and the first since 1987. He threw a<\/a>\u00a0touchdown pass during the Packers Family Night scrimmage<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday, August 2 and\u00a0flashed despite limited reps in training camp<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The London, Ont. native won the Hec Crighton Trophy, Canada\u2019s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, in 2024 while leading Wilfrid Laurier to a Vanier Cup appearance. That earned him the chance to become the first Canadian university quarterback and second U Sports player ever invited to the Senior Bowl all-star game.<\/p>\n

Over four years with the Golden Hawks, Elgersma completed 72 percent of his passes for 10,230 yards, 76 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions in 39 games. He also rushed 122 times for 572 yards, averaging 4.7 per carry, and 18 touchdowns. The big QB was twice named the Ontario University Athletics Conference\u2019s Most Valuable Player, earning first-team All-Canadian honours in 2024 and a second-team selection in 2023.<\/p>\n

Elgersma\u2019s exclusive CFL rights belong to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as he was selected in the second round, 18th overall during the 2025 CFL Draft. The\u00a0Bombers would like to sign him eventually<\/a>, but he won\u2019t return to the three-down game<\/a> until his NFL options are exhausted.<\/p>\n

In January, Elgersma was selected by the Birmingham Stallions in the United Football League QB Draft. Players report for training camp on Thursday, February 19. The Canadian citizen would need to obtain a United States work permit in order to play in the UFL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Photo courtesy: Michael P.
