{"id":487189,"date":"2026-02-20T08:02:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T08:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/487189\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T08:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T08:02:26","slug":"vancouver-hockey-fans-heartbroken-at-watch-party-after-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/487189\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver hockey fans heartbroken at watch party after loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vancouver hockey fans\u2019 hopes were crushed after Team Canada\u2019s women\u2019s hockey team lost to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Many excited fans attended a watch party downtown at the Shark Club to support their athletes on the ice at the Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.<\/p>\n<p>Canada suffered a heartbreaking loss of 2-1 in overtime, although Kristin O\u2019Neill put the Great White North ahead at the start of the second period.<\/p>\n<p>Fans cheered on Canada for making it all the way to the gold medal final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot the outcome we wanted, but you know what? We were underdogs. Complete underdogs,\u201d one fan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing disappointing about it other than the loss obviously, but everyone can hold their heads up being proud of that performance. (CityNews)<\/p>\n<p>Team Canada held the lead until the last three minutes of the game, when Knight scored to tie the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSilver is not so bad. It was great hockey. It was super fun to watch,\u201d a fan told CityNews.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously not an ideal, but incredible games, so hard fought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Megan Keller scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the loss, the fans in Vancouver are proud of the women\u2019s team for their efforts against Team Canada\u2019s biggest Olympic rivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am going to start crying, but it\u2019s awesome. Silver doesn\u2019t quite feel the same as gold in this rivalry, but yeah,\u201d said one fan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur girls played with so much grit and so much passion and so Canadian,\u201d one fan said.<\/p>\n<p>The watch party was hosted by the PWHL\u2019s Vancouver Goldeneyes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Vancouver hockey fans\u2019 hopes were crushed after Team Canada\u2019s women\u2019s hockey team lost to the United States.
