An adult male died in hospital Thursday evening after being stabbed in downtown Ottawa in late afternoon.<\/p>\n
The Ottawa Police Service<\/a> said in a Feb. 19 media release that first responders were called to Rideau Street at the intersection with Colonel By Drive, just west of the Rideau Centre, at about 5:35 p.m.<\/p>\n The victim was found with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics<\/a> stabilized him and transported him to hospital, but he died there.<\/p>\n One person was taken into custody, the police release added, though it neither named that individual nor specified whether charges had been laid.<\/p>\n The victim\u2019s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, the OPS added.<\/p>\n The investigation was ongoing, and officers remained in the area into Thursday evening, police said. Rideau Street<\/a> was blocked between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street during the investigation.<\/p>\n Anyone with information about this or any other homicide was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.<\/p>\n This was the fourth homicide of the year in Ottawa, all since Jan. 28.<\/p>\n Majed Al-Ar died Feb. 11 after being shot on Bankfield Road near Prince of Wales Drive outside Manotick. Hussein Kaddoura, 22, was charged with manslaughter, kidnapping and possession of an illegal firearm.<\/p>\n Before that, the stabbing deaths of Shawn Challis-Eatough, 28, and Andrew Dawson-Swan, 37, were reported on Jan. 28 and Feb. 6, respectively.
