Calgary is experiencing continued winter conditions, with very cold overnight temperatures and double\u2011digit windchills expected over the next few days. These conditions can increase the risk of ice forming on roads and sidewalks, particularly at trouble spots such as bridge decks, hills, and intersections.<\/p>\n

What the City Is Doing<\/p>\n
Crews are continuing to follow the City\u2019s snow and ice control priorities:<\/p>\n
Pedestrian infrastructure is the top focus today, with all available hand crews working on:

Road crews are completing plowing on major routes, including key corridors such as Crowchild Trail, Memorial Drive, and Glenmore Trail.
\nLater today and into Thursday afternoon, crews will shift into major community and transit routes, continuing work to improve driving conditions as temperatures remain cold.<\/p>\n

Activating these detours across the city helps reduce the risk of buses becoming stuck and minimizes delays for customers.<\/p>\n All Calgary Transit school routes remain in place and are not impacted by detours. Pedestrian Safety & Sidewalk Clearing<\/p>\n Cold temperatures and windchills can quickly turn packed snow into ice. While the City clears about 10% of Calgary\u2019s sidewalks, including those next to City\u2011owned properties, property owners and occupants are responsible for clearing the remaining 90% within 24 hours after snowfall ends, as required by bylaw.<\/p>\n Clearing sidewalks promptly and applying sand or traction material helps keep neighbours, seniors, families, and people using mobility aids safe during extreme cold.<\/p>\n Be a Snow Angel<\/p>\n If you\u2019re able, consider checking in on neighbours who may need extra support, including seniors or those with reduced mobility.
