After being shut out in their tournament opener, the\u00a0Sask\u00a0Selects 14U squad looked to get back on track Friday morning against the Edmonton Elks Selects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Selects took command early in the first quarter with a long touchdown run from Regina\u2019s\u00a0Nicardo\u00a0Reid. The missed convert kept the score at 6\u20130. To end the half, the Saskatchewan\u00a0defence\u00a0stood tall with a turnover on downs deep in their own end.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The offence stayed hot in the third quarter, as Saskatoon\u2019s\u00a0Powlowski\u00a0hauled in a catch\u2011and\u2011run touchdown to extend the lead to 12\u20130. Edmonton responded\u00a0immediately\u00a0with a long, clock\u2011eating drive that resulted in a touchdown and a single, cutting the deficit to 12\u20137.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At the two\u2011minute warning,\u00a0Powlowski\u00a0made another big third\u2011down catch to move the chains, though the Selects were eventually forced to punt. Edmonton mounted one last drive, battling through multiple injuries, and\u00a0attempted\u00a0a final heave downfield as time expired. The pass was knocked down at triple\u00a0zeros.\u00a0<\/p>\n
