Some Vancouver bars and restaurants will be pouring pints before sunrise on Sunday morning as the city rushes to approve applications for extended liquor hours ahead of the men\u2019s Olympic gold medal hockey game between Canada and the U.S.<\/p>\n
In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, the City of Vancouver (COV) says it has seen increased interest from establishments looking to open early for the big game, with 15 applications submitted and 12 processed and sent to the provincial Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) for final approval as of Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor requests related to this game, both organizations have been processing approvals quickly,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
The city said some establishments have been cleared to begin liquor service as early as 5:30 a.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n
The following locations have received both LCRB and COV approval:<\/p>\n
Bells and Whistles Pub \u2013 3296 Fraser St
Leopold\u2019s Tavern \u2013 1619 W Broadway
Shark Club \u2013 180 W Georgia St
Craft Beer Market Restaurant & Bar \u2013 85 W 1st Ave
The Pint Public House \u2013 475 Abbott St
Par-Tee Putt \/ Dublin Calling \/ Slate \u2013 670 Smithe St
Steamworks Brewing Co. Kitchen & Taphouse \u2013 2275 Main St
Roxy Burger \u2013 910 Granville St
Parq Casino \u2013 39 Smithe St<\/p>\n
The following locations have received COV approval and are pending LCRB approval:<\/p>\n

Rogers Arena \u2013 800 Griffiths Way

Joeys Grill & Lounge \u2013 820 Burrard St<\/p>\n
Ian Tostenson, president and CEO of the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association, says the quick turnaround marks a significant improvement in government response times.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pleasantly surprised \u2014 that\u2019s the kind of thing we\u2019ve been pushing for,\u201d Tostenson told 1130 NewsRadio, adding it\u2019s a positive sign ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when he imagines similar approvals will be needed for patios and large crowds.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we can actually fix things and move forward and do things in an unconventional but responsible way, it\u2019s really motivating.\u201d<\/p>\n
City staff they are continuing to process the remaining applications, while the province works through final approvals in time for the Sunday matchup.<\/p>\n
