The Chief Administrative Officer of Metro Vancouver<\/a> has spoken for the first time since Global News broke the story about chaos in the organization\u2019s leadership<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Board of Metro Vancouver<\/a> then claimed it was launching an investigation into the \u201cleaked\u201d information and might even hire a private investigator.<\/p>\n

Jerry Dobrovolny was at Friday\u2019s Vancouver Board of Trade meeting and said that it shouldn\u2019t be phrased as a leak.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, laws may have been broken, and so that\u2019s what we\u2019re looking at,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dobrovolny said he couldn\u2019t comment on a private investigator and that it was \u201cdriven by the board.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dobrovolny refused to say how much taxpayer money might be used to hunt for an alleged whistleblower. However, he claimed \u201ctransparency\u201d about who\u2019s running the organization has been expensive.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I think taxpayers should be concerned about the laws being followed, rules being followed,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s important. And there\u2019s been considerable cost, hundreds of thousands of dollars of cost to the organization as a result.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked to explain how a \u201cleak\u201d of information might have cost the organization, Dobrovolny said he would not explain it at this point.<\/p>\n

Dobrovolny failed to mention that his suspension of Chief Financial Officer Harji Varn overstepped his authority<\/a>, setting in motion a series of costly problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be clear about transparency,\u201d he said on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did a governance review<\/a>. And Deloitte, who did the governance review, said that Metro is one of the most transparent organizations that it works with. Our information is posted and it is available. And I really wish organizations would use the information that\u2019s available.\u201d<\/p>\n

Metro Vancouver has since emailed Global News to say that, \u201cThe amount stated by our CAO today was speculative.\u201d<\/p>\n
