{"id":489255,"date":"2026-02-21T05:29:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T05:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/489255\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T05:29:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T05:29:11","slug":"wvb-wesmen-cant-close-out-calgary-as-dinos-rally-to-extend-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/489255\/","title":{"rendered":"WVB: Wesmen can&#8217;t close out Calgary as Dinos rally to extend series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<\/p>\n<p>                    <a href=\"https:\/\/wesmen.ca\/sports\/womens-volleyball\/stats\/2025-26\/calgary\/boxscore\/1489\" style=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Box Score<\/a> The Winnipeg Wesmen are going to have to put in another shift if they want to advance in the Canada West post-season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Calgary\u00a0Dinos rallied from three points down in the fifth set and defeated the Wesmen 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11) in Match 2 of their Canada West women&#8217;s volleyball play-in series Friday night at the Duckworth Centre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The deciding third match goes Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Duckworth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wesmen.ca\/sports\/womens-volleyball\/roster\/brooke-duncalfe\/997\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"997\" target=\"_blank\">Brooke Duncalfe<\/a> continued her torrid play with 24 kills and 13 digs. It was her fourth 20-kill match of the season and her third straight double-double. <a href=\"https:\/\/wesmen.ca\/sports\/womens-volleyball\/roster\/megan-kendziora\/999\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"999\" target=\"_blank\">Megan Kendziora<\/a> added 17 kills but the Wesmen were held to -.056 attacking in the fifth set while the Dinos attacked at .350 in the deciding frame.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We knew the series was going to be very even coming into it,&#8221; Wesmen head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/wesmen.ca\/sports\/womens-volleyball\/roster\/coaches\/phil-hudson\/133\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"133\" target=\"_blank\">Phil Hudson<\/a> said. &#8220;The stats were even, the experience from players was very even, and we were tied in the league, so we knew it was going to battle. Now it&#8217;s going to come down to a third match, so it&#8217;s kind of what we expected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll regroup and get better for tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Wesmen had a match point in their grasp in the fourth set, but freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/wesmen.ca\/sports\/womens-volleyball\/roster\/anna-filippin-buller\/1010\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"1010\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Filippin-Buller<\/a> committed a service error to allow Calgary to tie at 24. A few rallies later, Duncalfe committed an attack error and the Dinos escaped to force a fifth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A night after lamenting her team&#8217;s &#8220;compete&#8221; in a straight-sets loss, Calgary coach Christine Biggs was once again emphasizing it, only this time as a deciding factor in her team&#8217;s ability stay alive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We fixed it,&#8221; Biggs said. &#8220;I had very little to say besides we needed to compete harder yesterday, and very little to say today except we competed harder. That&#8217;s what happens when you battle for everything.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did a better job of fighting and getting after the spaces we knew we were looking for and fighting when it wasn&#8217;t going well.
