The victory marks the team\u2019s second consecutive Olympic gold in the women\u2019s team pursuit.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo win, obviously, is incredible \u2014 you know better than I,\u201d Carney said. \u201cBut to repeat. To repeat! Unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n
The prime minister also joked about an award of his own, showing off a lawn bowling trophy from the Hamilton Italian Centre that he said he won earlier this year, and promised to take the team out to try the sport.<\/p>\n
Before ending the call, Carney said he was proud to speak on behalf of Canadians.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m spoiled in this role because I get to say, on behalf of all Canadians, how proud we are,\u201d he said. \u201cYou guys nailed it!\u201d<\/p>\n
On Friday, Maltais earned her third medal of the Games \u2014 bronze in the 1,500-metres \u2014 adding to her team pursuit gold and bronze in the 3,000-metres. Maltais and Blondin are also set to compete Saturday in the women\u2019s mass start semifinals.<\/p>\n
Canada\u2019s medal count now sits at 16: four gold, five silver and seven bronze.<\/p>\n
