{"id":489887,"date":"2026-02-21T12:14:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T12:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/489887\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T12:14:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T12:14:14","slug":"more-women-stepping-up-for-breast-screening-checks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/489887\/","title":{"rendered":"More women stepping up for breast screening checks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Breast-screening attendance has risen across the South East, as figures showed that nearly 19,000 more women were screened last year than the year before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Data from NHS South East showed 347,407 women in the region had a potentially life-saving mammogram during 2024-2025, compared with 328,405 between 2023-2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Appointments are being offered at local screening units and mobile vans, and a new permanent screening unit has opened at Crawley Hospital in West Sussex.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The NHS said some people, particularly those with physical disabilities, had faced challenges accessing screening, and previously needed to travel to Worthing Hospital or rely on mobile units with steps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dr Daghni Rajasingam said: &#8220;Early diagnosis saves lives, and making screening easier to access is a key part of that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The region&#8217;s medical director said that new diagnostic centres, mobile units and longer opening hours, including weekends and evenings, were making it easier for people to attend their appointments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;If you get an invite, please attend,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And if you&#8217;ve missed one, it&#8217;s quick and simple to rearrange so please don&#8217;t put off coming forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Follow BBC Sussex on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BBCSussex\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook<\/a>, on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BBCSussex\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:X;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">X<\/a>, and on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bbcsussex\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Instagram;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Instagram<\/a>.
