A 67-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck with a blunt object during a dispute that escalated late Friday night in the Ville-Marie borough of Montreal.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called around 11:30 p.m. after the victim was found lying on the roadway on Woolf Street near Sainte-Catherine Street East.<\/p>\n
Police say the man suffered a significant upper-body injury.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers observed he had a major injury to his upper body. According to preliminary information, a verbal altercation broke out between the victim and a suspect. The exchange escalated and the suspect allegedly struck the victim in the upper body with a blunt object,\u201d said Const. Johany Charland, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
The man was conscious and in critical condition while being transported to hospital. His condition later stabilized and his life is no longer considered in danger as of Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
Police arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with the assault.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers later located the suspect, a 56-year-old man. He was arrested and transported to an investigation centre to be met by investigators,\u201d Charland said.<\/p>\n
A security perimeter set up around the scene was lifted Saturday morning, though investigators continued searching the area for surveillance cameras that may have captured the assault.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
