MONTREAL \u2013 A 67-year-old man was seriously injured with a blunt object after an altercation late Friday night in downtown Montreal\u2019s Ville-Marie borough.<\/p>\n

Police said emergency services were called around 11:30 p.m. after the man was found lying on the sidewalk on Woolf Street near Sainte-Catherine Street East.<\/p>\n

Officer Johany Charland, spokesperson for the Montreal Police, said the victim had a serious upper-body injury and that an initial verbal dispute between the man and a suspect escalated, leading the suspect to strike him with a blunt object.<\/p>\n

Police said the 67-year-old was conscious and in critical condition when transported to the hospital, but that by Saturday morning, his condition had stabilized, and his life is no longer in danger.<\/p>\n

Charland said officers later located and arrested a 56-year-old suspect, who was taken to an investigation centre to be interviewed.<\/p>\n

Police said the security perimeter was lifted Saturday morning while investigators continued searching the area for surveillance cameras that may have recorded the assault.<\/p>\n
