It was her second medal of the 2026 Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Blondin, Val\u00e9rie Maltais of La Baie, Que., and Ottawa\u2019s Isabelle Weidemann captured gold in the women\u2019s team pursuit earlier in the Games. THE CANADIAN PRESS\/Darryl Dyck<\/p>\n<p>Blondin\u2019s result gave Canada its fifth long-track speedskating medal in Milan.<\/p>\n<p>Maltais fell at the beginning of the mass start race, but recovered to place fifth. She won three medals in Milan, adding bronze in both the 1,500 and 3,000 metres to her team pursuit gold.<\/p>\n<p>Antoine G\u00e9linas-Beaulieu, of Sherbrooke, Que., finished sixth in the men\u2019s mass start final.<\/p>\n<p>Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands won the gold, Denmark\u2019s Viktor Hald Thorup took silver, and Italy\u2019s Andrea Giovannini claimed bronze.<\/p>\n<p>The mass start is head-to-head racing over 16 laps with points awarded for sprints during the race.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/6999dc6829fc3fd1c7af0230jpeg.jpg\" data-pswp- data-pswp-width=\"8640\" data-pswp-height=\"5760\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/6999dc6829fc3fd1c7af0230jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"Canada's Ivanie Blondin (12) competes during the women's mass start speedskating finals at the 2026 Winter Olympics, in Milan, Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.
