Get up to date on parking pointers for a safe, stress-free and enjoyable holiday season. <\/p>\n

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it\u2019s good to be prepared! For drivers who are planning on being out and about in the city for shopping or visiting friends and family, here are a few things to keep in mind. Following these simple steps can keep our neighbourhoods, shopping areas and public spaces safe for everyone.<\/p>\n

\"Person<\/a><\/p>\n

Extended parking on holidays<\/p>\n

On-street parking on statutory holidays like Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year\u2019s Day is allowed beyond the five-hour limit between 8 a.m. and midnight.<\/p>\n

Overnight parking<\/p>\n

Guests staying the night? At any time of the year, a temporary parking permit<\/a> from the City allows you to park on a residential street for longer than the standard five hours and during the prohibited period between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Remember, temporary parking permits are not valid on private property or where prohibited parking signs are posted.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how you can request a temporary parking permit for your guests:<\/p>\n

Online: Visit the Temporary Parking Permit\u00a0<\/a>webpage and complete the online form.
\nCall 311: You can call the City\u2019s Citizen Contact Centre by dialing 311 or 905-615-4311 (outside of City limits) from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

Remember to follow all road signs and parking signs. On days with heavy snowfall, rules around street parking and temporary\/residential parking permits change as the City implements Citywide Winter Parking Restrictions<\/a>. Also, avoid parking in fire routes and near fire hydrants, and use the accessible parking only if you have a valid permit.<\/p>\n

Free parking in Port Credit and Clarkson<\/p>\n

To make shopping and running errands easier, drivers can park for free in the Port Credit and Clarkson areas until January 15, 2026. All Pay and Display<\/a> machines will be bagged, so you don\u2019t have to do anything except park your vehicle.<\/p>\n

Parking during snow clearing<\/p>\n

Vehicles parked on the road can prevent City crews from being able to clear roads and residential driveway windrows, making it difficult for emergency vehicles, public transit and residents to travel.<\/p>\n

To make snow clearing safer and more efficient, the City has introduced a\u00a0penalty of $150<\/a>\u00a0for those who park their vehicles on the road when the City is plowing and declares a\u00a0Citywide Winter Parking Restriction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The City will declare a Citywide Winter Parking Restriction when the City needs to plow roadways. When a Citywide Winter Parking Restriction is declared, on-street parking is not allowed, except in areas identified by signage (e.g. 15-hour maximum). On-street parking on statutory holidays and religious observances is also prohibited.\u00a0Temporary parking permits<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0residential paid parking permits<\/a>\u00a0will not be issued and current ones will be suspended.<\/p>\n

The City will announce that a Citywide Winter Parking Restriction is in effect on its website<\/a> and on its social media channels. Residents can also\u00a0sign up<\/a> to receive an email alert or call 311.<\/p>\n
