Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has opened up about the band’s decision to continue following the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, who was found dead aged 50 in his hotel room in March 2022\"Two<\/p>\n

Dave Grohl admits it was “really complicated” to carry on with Foo Fighters following Taylor Hawkins’ death. Taylor was tragically discovered dead at age 50 in his hotel room in March 2022 \u2013 mere hours before the band was scheduled to take the stage at a festival in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia.<\/p>\n

When paramedics arrived at his room at the Four Seasons Casa Medina hotel, he was found unresponsive<\/a>. Emergency responders immediately began administering CPR, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

The following day, a urine toxicology test revealed that he had 10 different substances in his system, including THC, tricyclic antidepressants, opioids, and benzodiazepines.<\/p>\n

A year later, Josh Freese joined the group as a touring drummer but suddenly left in May, with Ilan Rubin stepping into the position. Now, in a frank interview, frontman Dave has discussed their choice to keep working together as a band.<\/p>\n

“We had Taylor Hawkins as our drummer for 25 years and, beyond being an amazing drummer, he was this incredible spirit,” he told Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1. Dave added, “He was this incredible human being, and he was our brother. He was our best friend.<\/p>\n

“So, continuing after Taylor was really complicated, not just for us, but for any drummer that was going to come in to like, you know, fill his shoes… You know.”<\/p>\n

He later revealed that the interview coincided with what would have been Taylor’s birthday.<\/p>\n

Dave confided to the host, “It’s Taylor’s birthday today. And so, we wake up in the morning and everybody just texts about how much we miss him and how the world’s not the same without him, but we still feel him very much. We always talk about him every f***ing day. In everything we do, we want to have that energy \u2013 we want to have that energy for Taylor.”<\/p>\n

During his conversation with Lowe, Grohl also addressed Freese’s sudden exit for the first time, after the drummer told fans he was “shocked and disappointed.”<\/p>\n

Dave explained that he and his bandmates decided to call Josh personally to inform him of their decision.<\/p>\n

He went on to stress that the decision “didn’t happen overnight,” emphasizing that it was reached collectively by all band members.<\/p>\n

Dave elaborated: “Basically, we called Josh, and were like, ‘Hey man, that was awesome. That was such a blast, thank you so much, but we are going to move on and find another drummer.'”<\/p>\n

“After that, we didn’t make a press release, tweet anything, or do interviews. We didn’t say anything. Since then, there’s been a lot of talk about it, but I think Josh said it best when he said that he didn’t feel our music really resonated with him, and that’s really important.”<\/p>\n

The Foo Fighters’ newest album is scheduled to drop on April 24, following their 2023 release, But Here We Are.
