The designation recognizes Mr. Haroon Khan\u2019s more than 40 years of humanitarian and community service benefiting Mississauga residents and communities internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the motion:<\/p>\n<p>The trail through Tillsdown Park at 1620 Sir Monty\u2019s Drive will be named Haroon Khan Trail.<br \/>\nKhan has supported numerous humanitarian causes in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Somalia, and founded schools that serve underprivileged children.<br \/>\nHe has been an active volunteer with several local organizations, including the Peel Multicultural Council and United Way of Greater Toronto.<br \/>\nKhan has received multiple recognitions, including the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada plaque and the Ontario Volunteer Service Award.<br \/>\nTrail naming signage will be installed in Tillsdown Park.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=78296\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read<\/a> the motion.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Meeting.aspx?Id=c1e82a88-0ab6-4def-b99e-b26791f95268&amp;lang=English&amp;Agenda=Merged&amp;Item=33&amp;Tab=attachments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watch<\/a> the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing anti-Hindu hate in Mississauga<\/p>\n<p>Council unanimously approved a motion to formally condemn acts of anti-Hindu hate and reaffirm the City\u2019s commitment to protecting freedom of religion and belief for all residents. The motion responds to reported incidents of vandalism, harassment and misinformation targeting the local Hindu community.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the motion:<\/p>\n<p>Council formally condemns anti-Hindu hate in all forms, including verbal, physical, digital, or institutional acts of discrimination.<br \/>\nCouncil reaffirmed its support for freedom of religion and belief as protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.<br \/>\nCity staff will work with Peel Regional Police, the City\u2019s Combating Racism, Discrimination and Hatred Advisory Committee and interfaith organizations to develop outreach and education initiatives.<br \/>\nA copy of the resolution will be shared with local MPs, MPPs, school board trustees and Hindu community organizations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=78318\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read<\/a> the motion.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Meeting.aspx?Id=c1e82a88-0ab6-4def-b99e-b26791f95268&amp;lang=English&amp;Agenda=Merged&amp;Item=63&amp;Tab=attachments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watch<\/a> the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for new Santa Claus parade<\/p>\n<p>Council approved funding to support the creation of a new Santa Claus Parade in Mississauga\u2019s downtown, to be held in conjunction with the City\u2019s annual Light Up the Square celebration at Celebration Square. The initiative aims to enhance tourism, support local businesses and contribute to downtown revitalization through festive seasonal programming.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the motion:<\/p>\n<p>Council approved $100,000 from the City\u2019s portion of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) reserve to fund the 2025 Santa Claus Parade.<br \/>\nThe nighttime parade will feature illuminated floats, live entertainment and family-friendly activities aligned with Light Up the Square.<br \/>\nCity staff will work with Tourism Mississauga, Oxford Properties and other partners to coordinate event planning and maximize tourism and economic benefits.<br \/>\nStaff will provide a post-event evaluation on attendance, hotel occupancy, business engagement and media reach.<br \/>\nThe parade will serve as a pilot for future integrated holiday events supported by MAT reserve.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=78317\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read<\/a> the motion.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Meeting.aspx?Id=c1e82a88-0ab6-4def-b99e-b26791f95268&amp;lang=English&amp;Agenda=Merged&amp;Item=61&amp;Tab=attachments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watch<\/a> the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Empowering Change: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy 2026-2031 (from October 29, 2025, General Committee meeting)<\/p>\n<p>Council approved the City\u2019s first five-year comprehensive Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, outlining a new, organization-wide approach to equity, inclusion and anti-racism in all municipal functions.<\/p>\n<p>Key points of the strategy:<\/p>\n<p>The EDI Strategy provides direction and tools to guide City EDI goals with a set of key performance indicators and annual reporting to Council.<br \/>\nThe plan is built around an overarching framework of leadership, governance and strategy, focusing on four pillars: the City as employer, policy maker, service provider and purchaser.<br \/>\nGoals include fostering a diverse workforce and leadership, embedding an EDI lens in all policies, improving access and inclusion in City services, and increasing procurement opportunities for diverse businesses.<br \/>\nStrategy development was informed by extensive public and staff engagement, including sessions in multiple languages and collaboration with the Diversity Institute at Toronto Metropolitan University.<br \/>\nImplementation will be tracked through annual reporting and measurable indicators such as workforce diversity, leadership representation, employee belonging, policy assessments, service delivery, community engagement and supplier diversity.<br \/>\nThe strategy positions Mississauga alongside other major municipalities in adopting comprehensive EDI frameworks, aiming for sustainable change and ongoing progress.<\/p>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=78031\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>.<br \/>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=78032\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strategy<\/a>.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pub-mississauga.escribemeetings.com\/Meeting.aspx?Id=e3496e79-740e-4ac7-b1a9-b1c63f790b6b&amp;lang=English&amp;Agenda=PostAgenda&amp;Item=20&amp;Tab=attachments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watch<\/a> the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>For a complete record of all meeting resolutions, review the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississauga.ca\/council\/committees\/city-council\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Council meeting minutes<\/a>\u00a0available after approval at the next scheduled Council meeting.
