{"id":491533,"date":"2026-02-22T06:47:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T06:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/491533\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T06:47:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T06:47:08","slug":"surrey-and-delta-emergency-shelters-open-as-temperatures-drop-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/491533\/","title":{"rendered":"Surrey and Delta emergency shelters open as temperatures drop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>              Surrey and Delta emergency shelters open as temperatures drop<\/p>\n<p class=\"pubStamp\">Published 2:14 pm Saturday, February 21, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Additional community-based shelters will remain open in Surrey and Delta this weekend as overnight temperatures drop.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/en\/location\/index.html?coords=49.025,-122.796\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Environment Canada<\/a> said temperatures are expected to drop to 6\u02daC overnight in White Rock.<\/p>\n<p>The Homelessness Services Association of B.C. issued an alert on Saturday (Feb. 21) because it will feel like it is\u201cat or below 0\u02daC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The following community-based shelters in Surrey and Delta will be open on Saturday (Feb. 21) and Sunday night (Feb. 22), according to a bulletin from the Surrey-White Rock Extreme Weather Response team.<\/p>\n<p>SURREY<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Surrey Alliance Church: 13474 96th Ave. between 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The site is accessible through the breezeway entrance in the rear parking lot. No pets. For adults 19+. There are 30 mats available.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 South Surrey Recreation &amp; Arts Centre EWR: 14601 20th Ave. between 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The site is accessible near the lower parking lot. The site is pet-friendly and pet accessible. For adults 19+. Couples welcome. 45 mats available.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 NightShift Ministries: 10635 King George Blvd., 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. This site is not wheelchair-accessible and cannot accommodate pets or carts. For adults 19+. 16 mats available.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Surrey Welcome Hub: 13545 King George Blvd. from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The site is not wheelchair-accessible. Can accommodate couples. Snacks and hot beverages served. No pets or cart storage available. 16 mats available.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Shimai Transition House: 13327 100A Ave. Operates between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Intake is open between 8 p.m. and midnight. Wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (some restrictions may apply). Coffee, tea, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, waffles, and snacks provided. Cart storage, showers, and laundry are available. Bus ticket provided upon exit. Six mats for women.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Pacific Community Resources Society: 10453 Whalley Blvd. Operates between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am. Final intake at 11pm (if no guests by 11pm site will close for the night). Can accommodate 8 youth 24 years of age and under. No cart storage available. Hot meals served, showers and laundry available. Bus tickets provided upon exit. No pets. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreylibraries.ca\/community-services\/housing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Surrey Libraries<\/a> keeps an up-to-date list of other shelters that are regularly open at surreylibraries.ca.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.streetmessenger.io\/map?utm_source=surrey%20now-leader&amp;utm_campaign=surrey%20now-leader%3A%20outbound&amp;utm_medium=referral\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Street Messenger<\/a> also has a map to look up shelters in your area at streetmessenger.io\/map<\/p>\n<p>DELTA<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Ladner United Church \u2013 4960 48th Avenue. Operates between 9:00pm and 7:00am open until site is full, can accommodate couples. Site is wheelchair accessible. Pet friendly (on a leash or in a kennel while in the building). No cart storage available. Showers and laundry onsite. Nine mats.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Crossroads United Church \u2013 7655 120th Street. Operates between 9:00pm and 6:30am<\/p>\n<p>10 inclusive shelter spaces for self identified women only. Enter through North Door down the driveway at the back of the building. Site is wheelchair accessible. Pet friendly (in a kennel while in the building). No cart<\/p>\n<p>storage available. No showers or laundry onsite.
