A Montreal resident is facing several charges following a months long investigation into a report of fraudulent activity.<\/p>\n
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says it launched a criminal investigation in Sept. 2025 after an area resident reported fraud while attempting to purchase an automobile on an online marketplace. <\/p>\n
Police say the victim reported paying a deposit to an individual claiming to be a car dealer, but the vehicle was never delivered.<\/p>\n
Investigators attended a residence in Hawkesbury, Ont. on Feb. 27. Following the investigation, 24-year-old Anaique Fankam Kakanou of Montreal has been charged with three Criminal Code offences. They include:<\/p>\n
Fraud under $5,000;<\/p>\n
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;<\/p>\n
Personation with intent to obtain property \u2013 identity theft.<\/p>\n
The accused was released from custody pending a bail hearing.<\/p>\n
