Dominik Szoboszlai is pretty universally agreed to have been Liverpool\u2019s player of the season so far – but the Reds will come up against a player that Jamie Carragher claims is even better on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Szoboszlai<\/a> has been earning plaudits throughout the season for his performances<\/a>, despite the rest of his teammates struggling in what has been a disappointing campaign for the Reds.<\/p>\n

The midfielder sits behind only Hugo Ekitike<\/a> as Liverpool\u2019s top scorer this season, having grabbed 10 goals so far, including spectacular free-kicks against Manchester City and Arsenal as he\u2019s emerged as his side\u2019s new set-piece specialist following Trent Alexander-Arnold\u2019s<\/a> departure.<\/p>\n

Despite earning so much praise, it seems not everyone is all that convinced, and Reds legend Carragher<\/a> has actually been one of Szoboszlai\u2019s biggest critics over the past year or so.<\/p>\n

The former defender has previously admitted to not being the Hungarian\u2019s \u201cbiggest fan,\u201d<\/a> having bemoaned his goals return last season – Szoboszlai has already beaten his 2024\/25 tally of eight.<\/p>\n

Not only that, but Carragher also suggested his old club should sign Morgan Gibbs-White, having claimed the Nottingham Forest star was a better player than Szoboszlai<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been watching Morgan Gibbs-White now for probably 18 months in the Premier League and I\u2019m convinced he can play for one of the top teams,\u201d Carragher told The Overlap US: It\u2019s Called Soccer podcast<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look at him in that number 10 position, he\u2019s got goals, he\u2019s got energy, he\u2019s quick, he gets on the ball and I think that lad has got a lot going for him and obviously he\u2019s going to get a move.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously the point being that he\u2019s one that Thomas Tuchel has got to be looking to get in the England squad.<\/p>\n

“It will be difficult for him to play because of the players that you have in that position but I think, look I say he\u2019s going to play for one of the top teams but Forest are that at the minute, I\u2019m going to get slaughtered here aren\u2019t I, but what I mean is that I could see him, I think he\u2019s as good as Szoboszlai, if not better, in that number 10 position. I think he\u2019s brilliant.”<\/p>\n

Szoboszlai and Gibbs-White are likely to come head-to-head today as Liverpool takes on Forest<\/a>, although what position the former takes up is anyone\u2019s guess, having had to fill in across multiple roles for Arne Slot<\/a> this season.<\/p>\n

That makes Szoboszlai\u2019s tally of 10 goals and seven assists all the more impressive this season, and it means he sits ahead of Gibbs-White on eight goals and five assists, although the Forest star is ahead when it comes to the Premier League, having scored six goals to Szoboszlai\u2019s four.<\/p>\n
