{"id":492929,"date":"2026-02-22T23:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T23:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/492929\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T23:27:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T23:27:08","slug":"canadas-promise-david-dealing-with-suspected-thigh-injury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/492929\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada\u2019s Promise David dealing with suspected thigh injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Promise David has a suspected thigh injury that will be re-evaluated in the coming days, sources tell TSN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 24-year-old was stretchered off in the 76th minute of his club Union Saint-Gilloise\u2019s 2-1 win on Saturday over Antwerp after David collided with a defender and fell awkwardly inside the penalty box.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Although Union Saint-Gilloise released a statement Saturday night saying David did not suffer any fractures, any time on the sidelines hampers the momentum he was building with his club and country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">David is currently second in the Belgian League scoring with nine league goals and has a total of 15 goals in 37 matches across all competitions. Powered by David\u2019s goals, Union Saint-Gilloise sit first in Belgium and recently advanced to the Belgium Cup final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">David\u2019s club success was also meant to elevate his Canadian stock too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Since mid-December, David\u2019s playing minutes have increased. He now regularly finishes a full 90 minutes as the 6-foot-5 striker tries to convince Canadian head coach Jesse Marsch he can be relied on to be Jonathan David\u2019s starting striker partner, and not just a goal-poaching substitute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Timeline will now play a factor in David\u2019s recovery with 16 weeks remaining before Canada opens its 2026 World Cup on June 12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Time is now also a factor for Alphonso Davies after Canada\u2019s captain looked emotional as he left Bayern Munich\u2019s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt with what TSN is hearing is a small hamstring tear.
