\u201cYVR is aware of a security situation within Puerto Vallarta that is impacting operations at Licenciado Gustavo D\u00edaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR),\u201d the airport said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur guest experience team is in the terminal assisting affected passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The airport had originally said the cancellations run until Feb. 25, but this has been changed to read Sunday only. However, this may change. Travellers are advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport.<\/p>\n
Air Canada, Porter, and WestJet had earlier cancelled all flights into the Puerto Vallarta airport.<\/p>\n
This comes after violence erupted following the Mexican army killing the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rub\u00e9n Oseguera Cervantes, \u201cEl Mencho,\u201d in an operation Sunday. The Canadian government has warned all citizens in Jalisco State, which includes Puerto Vallarta, to shelter in place as violence escalates.<\/p>\n
YVR says updates will be provided as they become available.<\/p>\n

The Canadian government upgraded its travel advisory for Jalisco State Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cCriminal groups have set up roadblocks with burning vehicles in several cities in Jalisco State, including in Puerto Vallarta,\u201d the advisory says.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been shootouts with security forces and explosions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Everyone in Puerto Vallarta is asked to shelter in place. All taxi and rideshare services have been suspended.<\/p>\n
The advisory says that anyone in Jalisco should \u201ckeep a low profile,\u201d monitor local and international media to keep informed about the \u201crapidly evolving situation,\u201d and follow all advice from local authorities, including shelter-in-place orders.<\/p>\n
Canadians in all parts of Mexico \u2014 not just Jalisco State \u2014 should be aware of advisories in place.<\/p>\n

Several areas \u2014 including popular tourist destinations such as Cancun, Cozumel, and Mexico City \u2014 are under an advisory to \u201cexercise a high degree of caution\u201d due to \u201chigh levels of criminal activity and kidnapping.\u201d<\/p>\n
