Up till now, only season tickets holders for the Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, and Okanagan Sun junior football team have been able to buy ducats for the two games to be held at the Apple Bowl.

“Our pre-sale for the two games has gone exceptionally well, and we expect a huge response and quick sellout once we go to the public later this week,” Lions president Duane Vienneau said Monday in Kelowna.

While the Lions are in Kelowna in June and July, they’ll be based at Okanagan College’s campus in Kelowna. The college has been announced as the presenting sponsor for Touchdown Kelowna, the name given to the games on June 27 and July 4.

“This is a truly historic moment for our region, an event that brings our community together, celebrates the spirit and beauty of the Okanagan, and showcase what this makes this place so special,” said Neil Fassina, president of the college.

For the two games, the Apple Bowl is being temporarily expanded to about 19,000 seats. In addition to regular seats, a ‘Party Zone’ will be created along the sidelines.

No public information has been provided yet on how the costs for the two games are being split between the Lions and the City of Kelowna. The games will create millions of dollars in economic benefit for Kelowna, the city says.

Details on a community football-themed festival planned to occur the week between the two games will be released soon.
